Wethersfield is a town in central Wyoming County, bordered to the north by Orangeville, to the east by Gainesville, to the south by Eagle and to the west by Java. With a population of fewer than 900, Wethersfield is among the least populated municipalities in the county. Wethersfield includes the hamlets of Hermitage, Poplar Tree Corners, Smith’s Corners, Union Corners, and Wethersfield Springs
The town has dozens of wind-powered turbines atop a hill which can be seen from Route 78. Also in Wethersfield is Camp O’Ryan, a former National Guard training area built in the mid-20th century over 375 acres and also known as the Wethersfield Rifle Range.
There are none in Wethersfield, but 10 miles west in Java, you’ll find the Java Historical Society. About 15 miles northwest is the Sheldon Historical Society in Strykersville.
